Roca Wear Boots

Take a good look. Look hard! These are the Roca Wear boots that dirty Fila wants for christmas. We went to the mall on yesterday and she saw these boots and had to have them. Normally $100, they were on sale for $60. Well , after much discussing I did get them for her. I argued they were too trendy, too ghetto fab, she was too young for boots like this and on and on. She tried them on and while I thought they looked a little too mature for a 13 year old, I bought them anyway. The redeeming feature? They are some sort of padded material. They will be good in the snow... hopefully.

The things kids want. I hope they really are functional and not just the name. She is taller than me with them on. They are upstairs now in her closet. I told her she cannot wear them until Christmas. I will wrap them up on Christmas eve and put them under the tree. I know Jay-Z will be having a good christmas. These boots were fling off the shelf at $60.00.

They have some other things on sale too!

Imelda Marcos New Shoe Line

Surrounded by paintings by Picasso and Gauguin, an impeccably coiffed Imelda Marcos perched regally on the Louis XIV couch in her high-rise flat, discussing her topics of expertise: beauty, fashion and — of course — shoes.

"For me, beauty has always been a religion. Plato said beauty is God made real," said the former Philippine first lady, wearing a green chiffon pantsuit and matching lime sandals. "I'm a magpie for beauty. But what God doesn't give, you have to make yourself."

The 77-year-old widow of deposed dictator Ferdinand Marcos is still viewed as an icon of class and grace as well as a mindless shoe maven who amassed thousands of pairs of pumps and stilettos while her nation languished in poverty.

But there's a lesser-known side of the flamboyant fashion-plate: An haute-couture scavenger who spent nights fashioning outfits with a glue gun and scissors, even stripping the copper wire from telephone lines to get just the right look.

The Marcoses are now poised to capitalize on that fashion-meets-function image. Next month, Imelda's daughter Imee Marcos and Imee's two sons will introduce the Imelda Collection: a funky, streetwise line of jewelry, clothing and shoes. They hope the fashion line will attract a younger generation not yet born when Imelda Marcos trod the world stage.

The vintage line features pink sneakers with diamond-tipped shoelaces, monster-sized brooches, diamond- and pearl-studded earrings, dog-collar chokers and regal Cleopatra bracelets.

Imee describes the fashion accessories, which will sell for $30 and up, as "a bit retro, a bit over the top, sort of Madonna meets Elizabeth Taylor."

Many of the fashion pieces are right off Imelda's shelves. Others are limited-edition copies that the billionaire heiress will help redesign and colorize, along with her two fashion-model grandsons.

Man Steals 5,000 Pairs of Shoes for Odor

NAGOYA -- A man suspected of stealing about 5,000 pairs of shoes in order to enjoy their odor has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

"I was enjoying their smell," Masashi Kamata, 28, a resident of Moriyama-ku, Nagoya, was quoted as telling investigators. "Indoor shoes for school sexually stimulate me. I couldn't throw away the shoes I obtained."

In the specific case for which he was arrested, Kamata stole two pairs of shoes from a girl that were being dried on the premises of her home in Owariasahi, Aichi, in September last year.

Local police confiscated about 5,000 pairs of school indoor shoes for girls and boys from a warehouse he had rented in Moriyama-ku on Wednesday.

Police had received numerous complaints that indoor shoes have been stolen in Moriyama-ku and surrounding areas.

Investigators suspect that Kamata stole the shoes from shoe cabinets at schools and homes, and are trying to seek further charges against him.

A Drink That Only A Foot Could Love!

I was watching television last night... public television. One of my favorite saturday night shows is Globe Trekker on public television. They were showing all of the worst foods they have ever experienced around the world as an extra. They were god awful, some of them. I cannot recall what countries they were in, there were so many, but a few of the ones that stand out in my mind are:
  • The heart of a snake in a shot of alcohol. The heart is cut out of a live snake and put into the shot glass of alcohol that is waiting. You must drink it all down immediately. Don't chew. Just swallow. I wonder if it is still beating?
  • Excrement and seal fat mixed together to make an emulsion. I think it was seal excrement. Yummy!
  • Fried fruit bat
  • Bull testicles. I know that is a southern thing too---mountain oysters.
  • Sourtoe cocktail
  • Baked goat head, eyeballs and tongue in Norway
The Sourtoe Cocktail was most entriguing to me. A human petrified toe is put into your shot of whisky and you have to drink in down. The toe must touch your lips. First of all what humans are giving up their toes to be used for the sourtoe cocktail? Where are those toes coming from?

After looking online, there is even a club if you are brave enough to do it. Why would you want to be a member of that club? Not me! The Sourtoes are actual human toes that have been dehydrated and preserved in salt. Swallowing one is not suggested.

Established in 1973, the Sourtoe Cocktail has become a Dawson City tradition. The original rules were that the toe must be placed in a beer glass full of champagne, and that the toe must touch the drinker's lips during the consumtion of the alcohol before he or she can claim to be a true Sourtoer. The rules have changed in the past twenty-seven years. The Sourtoe can be had with any drink now (even ones that aren't alcoholic), but one rule remains the same. The drinker's lips must touch the toe. " You can drink it fast, you can drink it slow-- But the lips have gotta touch the toe."
Do you want to join that club? Here is how. Now this is a drink that only your foot could love!

Flamingo Chasing Shoes

News Blurb: the company that makes the plastic pink flamingos is going out of business. That is what I heard on the news last thursday morning as I got dressed for work. Fear and trepidation filled my heart. I put on my flamingo chasing shoes!

When I was a little girl I did not like flamingos at all. They were strange to me. My love affair with flamingos began when the show Miami Vice came on. I was mesmorized by the pastels, the music and the flamingos in the opening sequence of the show. Throughout the years I have always wanted pink flamingos on the lawn or in the garden. I just never bought any. I was thinking those slightly tacky flamingos would be around forever. Not! I was in a panic after hearing that news.

When I got to work I spent the first 2.5 hours of my day chasing that elusive pink flamingo. I called every garden center of every discount store. I called greenhouses and free standing garden centers and nurseries. No one had a single pink flamingo. I was told over and over again that in the last week there had been a big RUSH for plastic pink flamingos. They were all sold out. My hope was about to go away when I made one last phone call to a feed and seed store. They had one box left of the original flamingos made by the company in Union. I asked the clerk to hold that box and let no one have it. I was on my way right now to get it.

During my morning flamingo chase, I also searched online and over and over again I saw those dreaded words: Out of Stock! I even went to the manufacturer's website to see if I could purchase online. Only if I was a business with a purchase order number with a minimum of $500.00.

Well there was only one thing to do. Grab my purse, ride that elevator down six floors to the parking lot and jump in the car. That is exactly what I did. 20 minutes later I was at the feed and seed store looking at that wonderful, white box holding my pair of pink flamingos. I made my purchase, happy as a clam. My thoughts are turning to spring. Shipments for lawn and garden stores are most likely already placed, so there are bound to be more of the original pink flamingos out there for sale. I will be stalking all the garden centers near me. I need more. Two is not enough. My fear now is that if I put them out someone will take them. They are now selling on EBAY for over $100.00. I do not want mine to end up on EBAY after being stolen.

I think I will put them in my large potted plants in the house. That way I can see then every day. My pink flamingos. It was worth putting on my Flamingo Chasing Shoes!

Marloes ten Bhomer Shoes

Marloes ten bhomer shoes! Now these shoes are most unusual. Thanks to Wayne for the link. Pretty but I wonder how really functional they are. Neat to look at!

This one is made from one piece of leather that has been folded into a shoe!

These next two are paper machie!
