There's a whole lot of thumping going on in Luling. That's because a lot of work goes into the annual Watermelon Thump. That goes for this year's 51st thump. The planning for next year's festival begins as soon as one ends, said youngster and future organizer Travis Bailey, 9.
"Everybody's excited because they get food from all different places and then at the exhibitor's market you can buy crafts and shirts and all kinds of stuff and you can get nice designed watermelon thump shirts and the carnival, it's sort of a giant one," Trey Bailey, Travis' dad, said. "We have a great midway downtown. We have tremendous entertainment. We have a fantastic parade on Saturday morning, just everywhere you look, there's something different." Full Story..
Man Killed After Fireworks Ignite In Car
MELBOURNE, Fla -- A 23-year-old man was killed and another critically injured when fireworks in the back seat of their car exploded and ignited the car, according to Local 6 News.
Police said Aravis Walker, 23, and Antonio Robinson, 27, were lighting fireworks and throwing them from their vehicle Monday night while driving in the area of Carver Street in Melbourne, Fla. At some point, an ember from a cigarette or one of the lit fireworks fell on the back seat of the car and ignited several other explosives. Full Story...
