Vibram Five Fingers

These are some interesting shoes? I have never seen before. They sound like something to try.

FiveFingers™ is the first and only footwear to offer the exhilarating freedom of going barefoot—with the protection and surefooted grip of a Vibram® sole. And that makes it ideal for a wide range activities you'd probably rather do barefoot—boating, kayaking, canoeing, canyoneering, coastal approach, even after-sport recovery.

FiveFingers gives you a gecko-like grip on slippery surfaces. They protect your tender feet from scorching sand and sharp rocks. FiveFingers helps to promote a more natural walking motion. They gently separate each toe, while stimulating and exercising the muscles of the feet.

The technology behind Five Fingers is explained on this page. The cost around $70. Buy them here. Here is a guy named Ted with a blog all about his barefoot adventures while he wears Five Fingers. (I found him through my endless search for things about shoes.) He runs marathons in them. The support needed for running seems questionable to me, but I guess it is there as he and others run in them. I think they would be great for wearing around the house.

Would I buy these? I am not sure. I would have try them out in the store and if they were like walking on a dream, they would be going home with me.

What I do is kick them in the pants with a diamond buckled shoe!

Yep, I run marathons in them, even ran a 100 mile race in them.

I think that they are a great alternative to regular footwear.

It is best to start slow in getting used to a non-structured shoe; however, over time, you will become stronger, and your feet will be happier.

Best Regards, Barefoot Ted

I bought a pair, but don't run in them much. I use them as travelling shoes - a kind of sandal/jandal replacement. There are some pros and cons which I reviewed here (Fivefingers at indie travel podcast) but overall, I'd recommend them if they fit your foot shape and your lifestyle.

I own the Kayakshed and www.kayakshed.com we have been selling them for a couple years now ( I think we were one of Vibrams first stores) Since then, I’ve purchased both the five fingers classic as well as the sprints for myself. I can’t tell you how much I love ‘em! They were not what I expected. I thought I would only use them for water applications (Kayaking obviously). Turns out I use them more for all sorts of things including yard work. They are tough to fit. We have a sizing chart on our site that works well. However if you’re in between 2 sizes. Buy both sizes and return the one that doesn’t fit. They are tricky to fit and they do get easier to put on after you have put them on 2 or 3 times.
Good luck and enjoy! Vibram Fivefingers
